@ Kennedy (L)
team summary
Identity: Active, scrappy group that competes on the ball and is willing to help into the paint when the dribble gets downhill. That effort and toughness continue to define us. We are showing that we want to pressure the ball, make things uncomfortable for the other team, and support each other defensively. The next step in our identity is learning how to stay aggressive without over-pursuing. When we get too extended or try to do too much, it can open up driving lanes, passing angles, and second opportunities for the other team. Our identity is strongest when we are active, disciplined, and connected.
Best moments: Our best moments came when we matched up early in transition and kept the ball in front, forcing Kennedy to slow down and actually set up their offense instead of getting easy chances in the open floor. That showed growth in our awareness and effort. When we got organized defensively, we gave ourselves a chance to compete possession by possession. Offensively, the give-and-go action was another bright spot. When we moved after passing and stayed engaged with each other, we created better rhythm and better opportunities. Those moments showed that when we play with energy, spacing, and purpose, we can make the game much harder on the other team.
Big growth opportunities: One major area for growth is talking earlier on switches and help defense. We have to communicate before the action happens, not after, so everyone knows where support is coming from and who is responsible for the next move. We also need sharper closeouts to shooters, making sure we stay under control and stay in between the player and the basket instead of flying by or giving up direct drives. After rebounds, we want cleaner outlets and better spacing so we can run before the defense gets set. Too often, those moments can be rushed or crowded, and that takes away transition opportunities. As we continue improving our communication, closeouts, and transition organization, we will become a much more complete team.
vs. Cupertino (L)
team summary
Identity: Active, scrappy group that continues to fight and compete no matter the situation. Against Cupertino, we showed resilience even when the game looked different from what we had prepared for. Since they played man-to-man, it took us out of some of the actions we had been working on, and early in the season it is always a challenge when we cannot scout opponents ahead of time.
Best moments: We had some really good opportunities early to build a lead and create momentum, especially in our first home game. We got quality looks on layups and put-backs, and while those did not all fall for us this time, those are the kinds of shots that will start going in as we continue to grow. Our fight and resilience stood out throughout the game, and that competitive spirit continues to be a strength for this group.
Big growth opportunities: We need to keep improving against man-to-man pressure, especially when teams extend into a press. Their man-to-man press created turnovers, and that ended up being the difference in the game. Defensively, containing their #10 was a big challenge, and continuing to learn how to move our feet and stay in front will help us a lot in those matchups. This game also reminded us how important it is to take advantage of early scoring chances when they are there. Even though this game was different from what we expected, it gave us another important learning experience that will help us moving forward.
@ Sunnyvale (W)
team summary
Identity: Active, scrappy group that is beginning to understand how to play through each other. Against Sunnyvale, we did a really good job with our give-and-go concept and showed that when we stay connected offensively, we can create quality opportunities. This group is learning how to compete with poise, make adjustments, and finish games even when the pressure rises.
Best moments: Our best moments came from getting the ball to Brooklyn early and then finding ways to get it back to her late when we needed key baskets. Even though Sunnyvale packed the paint on the lobs, Brooklyn did a great job stepping through traffic, finishing through contact, and converting in tough situations. We also had some key steals by Annelise, Aaria and Aisha that help shift momentum for us. Another important stretch came when Mila ran the point for a span, which helped take pressure off Brooklyn and forced Sunnyvale to adjust their strategy. Late in the game, we were also able to manage their press defense well enough to hold on, even after a few turnovers kept the game close.
Big growth opportunities: We still need to value the ball late and reduce turnovers so teams cannot hang around when we have a chance to close them out. Continuing to improve our poise against pressure defense will be important, especially in tight games. We also want to keep developing more balance offensively so the pressure does not fall too heavily on one player for long stretches. Still, this game showed real growth in execution, resilience, and confidence. Most importantly, congratulations on this win — it was the first win for the 6th grade team in 3 or 4 years, and that is something to be proud of.

team summary
Identity: Active, scrappy group that competes on the ball and is learning how to help into the paint when the dribble gets downhill. We started strong by getting the ball inside early and often, and we also knocked down a couple of outside shots. As we continue to grow, the challenge is staying disciplined and not over-pursuing, especially late in games when fatigue and inexperience can show up.
Best moments: Our best stretch came early when we established inside touches, hit a few perimeter shots, and built a cushion with our effort and execution. We showed that when we keep the ball moving and play with purpose, we can create good scoring chances. Those early possessions reflected how effective we can be when we are organized and aggressive.
Big growth opportunities: We need to improve our defensive positioning late in games, especially when we need a stop. Fatigue and inexperience showed up in those moments, and we have to keep growing in our awareness and discipline. Offensively, we need to keep the ball centered so it can flow from one side of the floor to the other and force the defense to move. Our spacing, especially from the wings, is key to keeping the defense honest so they cannot load up in the middle. We also had several opportunities to hit the short corner, but we missed them because of vision and awareness. Two close games in a row have helped show us exactly what we need to improve, and now we have to use those experiences to get better.
