Shooting Form & Finishing
Pick N Roll
Andrew and I worked on wing pick-and-roll reads, focusing on making the right types of passes based on the defense. We also spent time on the defensive end, especially hedging and improving his vision. We reviewed his pickup game as well, and I really liked how well he ran the floor. Spacing was another key emphasis, including understanding when to cut and when to fill. We ended the session about talking about his shooting form and improving it.
Andrew spent time working on his shot, starting with our usual around-the-world shooting work along with Pistol Pete ball-handling drills to build rhythm and confidence.
Partway through the session, a 5-on-5 game opened up on the court next to us, so we adjusted and made a plan for him to jump in and compete. That turned into a great opportunity for him to apply his work in a live setting.
He ran the floor well and did a nice job getting a lot of shots up during the game. One small thing for next time is making sure he introduces himself to his teammates right away so he can settle in and communicate even better.
Overall, it was a strong session that blended skill work and live game experience.
Transition
We put a heavy emphasis on rebound-to-outlet work and understanding proper spacing in transition. We focused on making sure Andrew is learning to call his location, run with purpose, and finish strong with a layup in transition.
We also worked on his catch-and-rip into a baseline-side floater, along with drive-and-kick reads to help him make better decisions off the dribble. We trained on both sides of the floor, including pushing middle from the left and right side, so he can become more comfortable attacking from different angles.
To round things out, we spent time on his dribble combos to create space, helping him separate from defenders and get into his scoring or playmaking moves more cleanly.
Form
Continued to work on Andrew's form. He did a great job progressing from last week when I introduced the form. Split and go reps. Trying to synchronize step 2. We also worked heavy on in & out cross into a step back.
Shooting Decision
We decided to work on his form. Its always a tough decision. However the sooner w correct some things . . the sooner he can get better. From the ground up we had to correct a slew of things.
Transition Defense
Game film focus was Transition Defense, using court time to study game footage and identify where we can sprint back, match up faster, and communicate earlier. Homework this week is simple and consistent: daily shooting reps, ball-handling/handles work, and watching film with the goal of spotting 2–3 transition moments to improve (effort, angles, talk, and locating shooters) and bringing those notes back to the next session.
Shooting, Dribbling
We worked a lot of scoring touch and creativity: floaters high off the glass, finishing on both sides off different feet, two-foot floaters, finger rolls, and a LaMelo-style layup series with emphasis on proper hand placement on the ball. We also sharpened the step-back jumper—selling the drive, keeping the ball protected from the defender, and adding a counter move—then tied it into Around the World with heavy passing and a Pistol Pete ball-handling sequence before each shot. To finish, we added a misdirection to the scissor dribble, keeping it low while maintaining eyes up to read the floor.
