Chinmay's session notes and progress updates
Form & Finish
We spent a lot of time working on Chinmay’s ability to hold the ball strong and attack out of a pump fake and jab. We also focused on creating better backspin on both his passes and his shot, along with form shooting that emphasized full extension and a clean follow-through. In addition, we worked on passing with both hands from different angles so he can become more versatile and accurate. Around the rim, we got up a lot of finishing reps, including finger rolls, floaters in front of the rim, and finishes high off the glass.
Homework:
- Form shooting
- Passing with backspin
- Shooting using calendar
Moves
We worked on more Pistol Pete ball-handling along with his shooting. Right now, getting his shot form right is essential, with a big focus on his legs and stance as the foundation. We also worked on improving his dribble twitch by using his in-and-out, float, and punch dribbles to help him become more shifty and controlled with the ball.
Homework: Watch video again. Write down practice goals for week.
Shooting Off Dribble
We worked on Pistol Pete shooting drills along with punch dribbles and changing pace off the punch dribble. We also added in a read component, helping him learn to slow down and create a brief delay so he has time to recognize what the defense is giving him. We’re going to keep re-evaluating his shot form as he improves so we can make sure the changes continue to fit him and help him grow.
Homework: Review video.
Shooting
Chinmay and I focused on improving his shooting form off both the catch and the dribble, with an emphasis on keeping his head up and using the “chin to shoulder” cue for consistent alignment and awareness. We reinforced game-read habits—especially when playing 21—by keeping his head on a swivel and scanning. We also worked rebound → outlet → run-the-floor transition with proper spacing, plus stepping into the direction of the pass and relocating to stay available and create better passing angles.
Homework: Coaches catch phrases. Scout of teammates.
Shooting, Dribbling
Today I introduced Chinmay to an updated shooting form, and he’s done a great job embracing the change. I’d like him to connect with Coach Jah about his stance so we can lock in the foundation the right way—this will really benefit him long-term. I felt it was important to make these adjustments now, instead of waiting another year and letting a few habits become harder to fix.
